The first chapter of this novel is about when Watson comeback from Afghanistan battle and knows Holmes because of renting a house. Holmes quickly reasons that Watson has ever been to Afghanistan battle, when they first met each other. With the developing of the plot, not only Watson is impressed by Holmes’s reasoning but also I am. Without any clues and background information, just by the first impression and observation, he quickly gets the answer. This is an amazing start which forces me to finish it.

In any cases in the novel, the author designs a strange story or a scene. But with Holmes’s analysis, they will be detailed. And then his reasoning will be presented clearly and vaguely. It is out of expectation, but it is within understanding. Each clue is presented naturally and I can’t find any flaw. So I amaze Holmes’s reasoning ability once again. Most noteworthy is the character—Holmes, who is not a rigid figure in the book, while we can feel that he is a alive and fresh man and he also has disadvantage and advantage. He knows the knowledge that the ordinary people don’t know, while he don’t know the knowledge which the ordinary people know.
